Lubrication is involved in all root canal treatment phases, from dental dam placement to canal obturation. Most often associated with instrumentation, lubrication is required to facilitate the mechanical action of hand/rotary files and to help emulsify and suspend the debris produced. Aqueous irrigation solutions such as sodium hypochlorite and ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) should be regarded as lubricants, but paste‐type substances are marketed specifically for this purpose. As more patients demand the retention of challenging teeth with narrow and curved root canals, the importance of lubrication in all aspects of root canal treatment must be acknowledged.

Directions for use
Open the pulp chamber in the usual manner and obtain adequate access to the root canal or canals. Remove the pulp and flush canal with sodium hypochlorite solution. Dispense lubrigel root canal lubricant directly from the unit dose applicator in and around the canal orifice. Or dispense lubrigel root canal lubricant from the applicator to a dappen dish and carry to the canal by coating a small hand file. The sodium hypochlorite will react with the lubrigel root canal lubricant and begin to effervesce or bubble. Using a small hand file, explore the canal, mixing the lubrigel root canal lubricant and sodium hypochlorite. Gently irrigate and evacuate with sodium hypochlorite. Coat the first file in the rotary file technique with lubrigel root canal lubricant and use to desired depth. Lubrigel root canal lubricant will now act as a file lubricant while instrumenting the canal with a rotary instrument. Repeat previous step for each step in the crown-down technique sequence until canal shaping and cleaning is completed. Note: irrigate and evacuate using sodium hypochlorite to remove lubrigel root canal lubricant mixture and dentinal debris from canal after every 2 files in the rotary file sequence. Once shaping is completed, thoroughly flush and evacuate canal using to remove all irrigants. Dry canal and obdurate. Remove the used tip, fix a new one and cover up if contact with air, as content could be hardened, so it is necessary to cover a cap on the needle after use
